The Mugnerets have parcels in Clos Vougeot right up at the top of the vineyard, close to the château, which is usually considered the best location in the vineyard, but in 2016, this is where the frost damage was the most extensive. Consequently, their production here was down thirty-five to forty percent from a normal crop. The wine is outstanding and very red fruity in profile this year, delivering a fine nose of red plums, red and black cherries, gamebird, a touch of nutskin, cocoa powder, a very complex base of soil tones, roses and a bit of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very soil-driven in personality, with a great core of fruit, impeccable balance and a very long, very complex and ripely tannic finish.
