This intense, serious wine still has enough elegance to ensure that this will open with time and blossom into something truly profound. There are aromas of ripe cherry, fresh flowers, and spice on the nose, and a firm, dense texture that remains silky, with enough extract to linger impressively on the palate. It is produced from a large block of nearly a hectare closer to Morey than Chambolle near the sign announcing 'Bonnes Mares'. The grapes are entirely fermented as whole clusters, and the wine is aged in one-third new barrels.

Fine even red colour, with a discreet but significant wealth of fruit waiting to emerge. Huge weight on the palate, dark raspberry and concentrated strawberry notes, a little bit of barrel toast to keep them company. A harmonious Bonnes Mares with some complexity, this should come round in the medium term. Tasted: September 2019.

Silky and smoky, this perfumed red features black cherry, wild berry, sandalwood, licorice and stone flavors. Balanced, yet firm enough to develop over the next few decades. Offers a lingering, juicy finish. Best from 2022 through 2042.—B.S.
